YWLA Awarded 2021 National Blue Ribbon School

A jubilant celebration was hosted on December 10, 2021 in recognition of the Young Women’s Leadership Academy (YWLA) earning the distinction of 2021 National Blue Ribbon School, placing it in elite company as one of the top one half of one percent of schools in the nation.

The auditorium was filled with families, friends, and most importantly, the faculty, staff, and students of YWLA. With remarks by San Antonio Independent School District (SAISD) Interim Superintendent Dr. Robert Jaklich, SAISD Board of Trustees President Christina Martinez, and Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar, among other local dignitaries, the entire community celebrated this remarkable achievement. The celebration featured a rousing performance by the Thomas Jefferson High School mariachi. One of the most touching moments was the wild ovation the young YWLA Primary Blue Jays received from their older sisters  when entering the auditorium.

Keynote speaker Laura Saldivar Luna, Chief People Officer of Teach for America, and SAISD Thomas Jefferson High School graduate, gave a moving speech about the importance of ensuring the alignment of your vision and your heart.

The ceremony came to a close with an explosion of confetti, and was followed by a field day for the students, complete with a visit from the horse of the Bexar County Sheriff's mounted patrol.
