YWLA Students Explore Public Transportation with VIA

VIA was pleased to welcome over 30 students from the Young Women’s Leadership Academy to VIA on November 9, for a field trip coordinated in partnership with the Women’s Transportation Seminar-San Antonio Chapter’s Transportation YOU program.

The students had a full day of learning and engagement that included a visit to The Grand (VIA’s executive headquarters), a tour of the largest Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) fueling station in the nation, VIA’s new electric bus charging facilities, a ride through the bus wash, a visit to the Keep SA Moving VIA Rapid Project Office on San Pedro, and a lunchtime activity during which they learned how to consider a community’s needs and priorities while planning bus services and routes.

Along the way, they met and heard from members of the VIA staff and leadership team, including a cross-section of subject matter experts on everything from strategic planning to passenger amenities, marketing, communications, community relations, safety and more.

Special thanks to VIA, YWLA and WTS for helping to organize the field trip for this next generation of transit leaders, and everyone who helped make it a success.
